  Main sound mixer mutes automatically every few seconds

Bug description:
  Summary says it all. Every few seconds the main sound mixer and most
  of the others mute on their own (with no user input.) This makes sound
  unusable. Unmuting the mixers makes sound come back for about 1 second
  then they mute again. The only way to fix the problem is to reboot.
  Until the next time it happens.

  This problem happens with all the following alsa modules versions:
  2.6.31 (ie all ubuntu karmic kernels)
  2.6.32 (ie all ubuntu lucid kernels so far)
  Current linux-backports-modules-headers-lucid-generic

  But it does not happen with 2.6.33 upstream kernels.
