[Bug 1024147] Re: 12.04 install cd freezes on mid-2012 13 inch MacBookPro
Andrew Merrill, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .
If it remains an issue, could you please make a comment to this?

Title:
12.04 install cd freezes on mid-2012 13 inch MacBookPro
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I have several mid-2012 13 inch MacBook Pros (MacBookPro9,2) and am
trying to boot from the Ubuntu 12.04 desktop 64 bit install/live cd.
All I see is a black screen with a blinking underline cursor in the
top left corner. I don't get the usual boot menu. I never see
"ISOLinux" on the screen.
I have tried Ubuntu 11.04 (desktop 64bit) on the same computers, and
then I do get to the boot menu. Booting then results in a kernel
panic, unless the noapic boot option is specified, in which case it
appears to work normally.
A colleague tried Ubuntu 10.04 on the same computers and found that it
worked fine.
Summary: On brand new MacBook Pros, 10.04 works, 11.04 works with
noapic, and 12.04 freezes immediately prior to the boot menu.
