[Bug 1176458] Re: Total system lockup on power cable connect/disconnect
Currently on kernel 3.9.4-030904-generic and I just had this lockup
again. Is there anything else I can try, debug info I can give?
The last lines in syslog before the fresh boot are
Dec 3 21:27:19 segnus kernel: [ 787.909643] audit_printk_skb: 27 callbacks suppressed
Dec 3 21:27:19 segnus kernel: [ 787.909654] type=1400 audit(1386134839.709:27): apparmor="DENIED" operation="capable" parent=1 profile="/usr/sbin/cupsd" pid=982 comm="cupsd" pid=982 comm="cupsd" capability=36 capname="block_suspend"
but I don't know the timings -- that could have been a good few minutes
before the lockup.

Title:
Total system lockup on power cable connect/disconnect
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
I've had this issue for six months or more, though it is fairly
infrequent. My laptop (Dell Latitude E4300) will lock up entirely
(keyboard and mouse not functioning, not responding to pings or sshd,
I'm left with whatever image was last on the screen, frozen) sometimes
when the power cable is plugged in or unplugged. I'd say it's maybe 1
in 15 times, but today it happened twice in a row and so it's finally
time to try to solve it. I have to hold down the power button to power
down and reboot when this happens, sometimes losing some work.
I'm not sure if my kern.log is being uploaded with this (I'll add it
afterwards if I don't see it) but the last two restarts were both
manual because of such lockups. I don't see any useful errors before
the first [0.00000] lines (May 4, 17:25:41 and 17:27:12), though.
I googled around and one suggestion was to remove the jupiter package.
That was not installed. I'm not sure where to go from here given that
there's nothing useful I can find in the error logs.
