[Bug 1076576] Re: runlevel 1 called with ctrl-alt-f1 turns off external monitor
** Description changed:
- ***************************************
- UPDATE: This problem is caused by the 12.6 amd driver.
- Uninstalling the driver fixes the problem
- if the 12.4 driver (from amd website) is reinstalled does not case the same problem.
-
- ****************************************
- When the laptops lid is closed(still running) and in amdccle the setting is enabled to disable the onboard laptop monitor and only drive the external monitor, calling runlelvel1(i.e. terminal with login prompt) via ctrl-alt-f1 leads to external monitor turning off("hdmi- no signal, going to sleep"). ,pressing ctrl-alt-f7, and pressing enter a few times wakes up the monitor again.
+ Using 12.6 AMD driver, when the laptops lid is closed(still running) and in amdccle the setting is enabled to disable the onboard laptop monitor and only drive the external monitor, calling runlelvel1(i.e. terminal with login prompt) via ctrl-alt-f1 leads to external monitor turning off("hdmi- no signal, going to sleep"). ,pressing ctrl-alt-f7, and pressing enter a few times wakes up the monitor again.
Terminal called with ctrl-alt-t works fine
WORKAROUND: only way to switch external monitor back on is ctrl-alt-f7.
+
+ WORKAROUND: Use radeon driver.
+
+ WORKAROUND: Use 12.4 driver from AMD's website.
