Re: [Bug 610055] Re: [pm-utils][maverick] system stutters, freezes, hangs, gratuitous 'Commit=0' errors

Hello,

I seem to recall this was a hardware fault in my case therefore for me it's
OK to close this bug.

Thanks,
John

Title:
  [Dell Latitude E6400] system stutters, freezes, hangs, gratuitous
  'Commit=0' errors

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I'm not sure if this should be one bug report or many, and I don't have much info to put in here.
  My computer is stuttering (doing small one-second freeze, similar to a OOM but it's not that), freezing (mouse and keyboard lock up, but wifi still blinks) and hanging completely (although this might be the same as the latter, because it happens when I open the lid - not a suspend/resume cycle, just closing the lid while on AC, opening it, blank screen and no activity).
  There is very little in the logs. The stuttering happens at random times, but especially when plugging in AC, at which point I get a SATA error in the logs, something like:
  Jul 21 10:54:31 hulla kernel: [ 5913.787813] ata6: exception Emask 0x10 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x4040000 action 0xe frozen
  Jul 21 10:54:31 hulla kernel: [ 5913.787823] ata6: irq_stat 0x00000040, connection status changed
  Jul 21 10:54:31 hulla kernel: [ 5913.787831] ata6: SError: { CommWake DevExch }
  Jul 21 10:54:31 hulla kernel: [ 5913.787845] ata6: hard resetting link
  Jul 21 10:54:41 hulla kernel: [ 5923.792597] ata6: softreset failed (device not ready)
  Jul 21 10:54:41 hulla kernel: [ 5923.792609] ata6: hard resetting link
  setting /sys/class/scsi_host/host1/link_power_management_policy to min_power stops the stuttering once it's started, and turning off IRRT seems to have gotten rid of them (but the system is slower as a result).
  I also get something similar almost every day, right after cron finishes,
