Title:
  [Hauppauge WinTV HVR-900/Hybrid][em28xx]Missing device files
  (/dev/dvb)

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  This bug was originally filed against Ubuntu 8.10, but seems to still
  be present in 10.04 (Beta 1, kernel 2.6.32-18-generic).

  I have for testing a Hauppauge HVR-900 USB based terrestrial TV card.
  It is reported to work with the em28xx driver, all that is needed is the firmware that I originally had to extract manually:

  Today the required firmware is included in the package linux-firmware-
  nonfree which can be installed directly from the repositories.

  The problem is that while the card is detected and modules/firmware
  loaded the files '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and
  '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0' do not appear. Without these files viewing
  any broadcasts is impossible.

  and after sudo modprobe em28xx-dvb:

  However when I attempt to generate a channel file
  ( scan -n -o zap -p fi-Jyväskylä > ~/.xine/channels.conf )
  I get the following error:

  Using Totem's DVB daemon plug-in it will either tell me "no devices
  are present" or "the device has already been configured".

  I observe with 'ls -lh /dev/dvb' that the files are indeed not present.
