[Bug 559705] Re: Sound doesn't work with Virtual kernel

David Clayton, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

Title:
Sound doesn't work with Virtual kernel

Status in “linux-meta” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Installed new 10.04 64-bit beta 2 VM using VMware Player 3.1 (beta)
and sound works with default generic kernel.

Install Virtual kernel packages (as one is supposedly meant to do with
VM clients) and sound is no longer working - system lists no detected
  sound device any longer.

There seems little point in having a kernel for virtual installs that
does not fully support *all* the virtual hardware.
