[Bug 940726] Re: 3.0.0-12 always powers off NIC, prevents WOL
BigglesPiP, as per http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/swdHome/?sp4ts.oid=4310887&spf_p.tpst=swdMain&spf_p.prp_swdMain=wsrp-navigationalState%3DswEnvOID%253D4004%257CswLang%253D%257Caction%253DlistDriver&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken#BIOS%20-%20System%20ROM an update is available for your BIOS (2013.10.01). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate , does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and just provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.
For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.
Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
3.0.0-12 always powers off NIC, prevents WOL
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
On a HP Proliant Microserver, I recently updated to 3.0.0-12 (I think
from 3.0.0-9).
WOL previously worked. It is still enabled in BIOS. It is still
enabled in NIC (ethtool). I've tried messing with the NETDOWN variable
in /etc/init.d/halt.
I can confirm that the NIC is powered down, both the port light on the
back of the box and the router extinguish where they previously did
not.
I've tried compiling 3.0.0-9 checked out from git to give it another
go but I'm not that good at compiling and I can't work out how to do
it when not making a change (which is what all the guides expect).
WORKAROUND: ifconfig eth0 down; shutdown -h now
