ok sorry for the delay ...
now I have 2x 7950 and this is nearly the same : on liveCD, X server fails to display properly with crossfire.
but instead of having a pink screen, this time I have a sort of unity screen, but window content and background is very corrupted.
still works well when there is only one card ...
and same behaviour with 14.04 nightly.

so I made a fresh install of ubuntu 13.10 amd64 with only one card, installed fglrx-update, then reboot with 2 cards.
and ran ubuntu-bug linux which reported this bug : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1264773

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  AMD crossfire is only supported by proprietary drivers, which are only available when Ubuntu is installed.
  During liveCD session, X server fail to work when using 2 AMD cards (hangs on a pink screen)
  I must disconnect one card to complete the installation, then add the proprietary drivers before replugging the second card.

  additional inforamtions :
  tried : 13.04, 13.10 alpha, beta, and daily
  video cards : 2x 7850
