Message #36873
[Bug 982310] Re: High consumption of ram in Ubuntu 12.04 - amd64, ext4, dpkg
FR. Loïc, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Xubuntu (as Ubuntu is more resource intensive in comparison)? ISO
images are available from
http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/308/builds .
If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:
apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>
As well, you may already be quite aware, but you are barely above the recommended requirements for a Desktop install as per https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/installation-guide/amd64/minimum-hardware-reqts.html . Hence, could you please further comment to each of these individually, as well as in combination, affect your issue:
+ Enabling swap
+ Enabling zram

Title:
High consumption of ram in Ubuntu 12.04 - amd64, ext4, dpkg
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Hi,
I just installed ubuntu 12.04 and I notice a huge memory consumption.
I do not use swap. I use ext4 and when I run an installation package is the drama :
free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 725 682 42 0 14 83
Under debian Squeeze I have already encountered problems with kswapd0. I think it is this:
