Title:
need to enable trim for SSD disk automatically
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Triaged
Bug description:
Many filesystems support discard feature, and lots of SSD disks(even some usb storages)
support TRIM feature, but unfortunately Ubuntu does not enable it automatically.
With trim/discard enabled, SSD's lifetime can be increased and write performance
may be improved.
For common users, we can't expect them to know trim and enable it manually, so
it is better to let ubuntu do it automatically like below:
- check if the disk support trim by hdparm -I
- if the disk supports trim, either mount with '-o discard' or doing trim in background
periodically as suggested in below link[1], or other better way
