I have done apt-get update and also did apt-get install linux* to install the latest kernel and other packages onto my Ubuntu guest.
Then rebooted the guest image after the installed packages.

root@ubuntu:~# dpkg --list | grep linux-image
ii  linux-image-3.13.0-0-generic            3.13.0-0.13                          ppc64el      Linux kernel image for version 3.13.0 on PowerPC 64el SMP

ii  linux-image-generic                     3.13.0.0.2                           ppc64el      Generic Linux kernel image
ii  linux-image-virtual                     3.13.0.0.2                           ppc64el      This package will always depend on the latest minimal generic kernel image.

Please let me know the path from where the linux kernel latest image can
be updated from and install the latest kernel image for ppc64el
platform.

My current repo is: http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/pool/main/l/

Let me know whether I can get the latest kernel from this above link.
