[Bug 1212856] Re: "Kernel Panic - Not syncing : Fatal Exception in Interrupt" in 12.04.2 LTS (64-bit)

Good news

the problem seems to be solved with the new kernel 3.11.

Since 3.11 I no longer have karnel panics and for the first time screen brightness
is working as it should by the fn keys.

Title:
"Kernel Panic - Not syncing : Fatal Exception in Interrupt" in 12.04.2
  LTS (64-bit)

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Several times, when I boot my Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS (Precise Pangolin)
64-bit installation, I get a kernel panic during the boot. When that
happens, I have to power the machine down and power it up again.
Sometimes, the kernel panic happens several times in a row, until the
  machine finally boots.

The hardware is a "HP Pavilion dv6" laptop, running in Dual-Boot with
Windows 7 Home Premium (also 64-bit).

I have all Updates installed to this date (15-aug-2013), including the
kernel updates: the running kernel is 3.5.0-37

  Here's the output from uname -a :

  $ Linux [hostname] 3.5.0-37-generic #58~precise1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jul 10
  17:48:11 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The last message of the kernel panic is almost always the following:

"Kernel Panic - Not syncing : Fatal Exception in Interrupt"

Sometimes, there's a message below that stating:

  "Shutting down cpus with NMI"

The messages above the "Kernel Panic" message are usually different
each time. I have photographed several of the "Kernel Panic" screens
and I can attach some of them to this Bug Report, if that's useful.

In case it's relevant, my partition setup for this Ubuntu installation
  is the following:

  1 - a "/boot" partition (formatted as ext3)
  2 - a swap partition
  3 - a "/" partition (formatted as ext4), with encrypted home folder.

Please tell me if I should add any information to this bug report.

  Thanks in advance.
