Title:
acer-wmi kernel module causes wireless to not work

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: ubuntu-express

I'm on an Acer Aspire One 721-3574.

The symptom was that I couldn't enable wireless with any of the usual
tricks. After doing a bit of research and playing for a few
hours/days, I finally figured out that for whatever reason, the
acer_wmi kernel module was soft blocking every wireless card on the
  laptop (external usb nic's too).

  I demonstrate this here:
  http://paste.pound-python.org/show/6078/

Immediately after line 63, the hardware wireless indicator lights up
for a brief moment, and is then re-extinguished.

acer_wmi doesn't seem to have much utility, is obviously buggy, and
should be blacklisted--possibly as an update and definitely in the
11.10 if the problem hasn't been fixed by then.
