Title:
ONEIRIC fails on in-place upgrade over wifi
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
hi guys,
Did an in-place upgrade from Natty amd64 today on my Dell Latitude 131L.
Two failures: b43fwcutter and flashplugin-installer.
After plugging in a lan wire I could easily reinstall b43fwcutter and firmware-b43-installer which restored my wifi in seconds.
I noticed the installer looks for the correct firmware online. Now if is first takes down the current driver and disables my internet access, logically it would fail to find any.
The solution here would be to change the order of things: look for the correct components online first, then take down the active driver, replace it and bring up the wifi again with the new version.
Because of this relatively small hickup, the upgrade bombed out before
cleaning up properly. I rebooted into Oneiric just fine, and used
Janitor to remove most Natty leftovers. Still, thing should be
smoother here.
regards
Tom
