[Bug 1283741] Re: [Dell XPS M1210] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at (null)

Terry Relph-Knight, as per http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/xps-m1210 an update to your BIOS is available (A08). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
[Dell XPS M1210] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference
  at (null)

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
With my Dell XPS M1210 Model PP11S, on boot Ubuntu 14.04 does not
always initialise the keyboard or mouse correctly. So a logon password
cannot be entered. Sometimes if the mouse pad is working it is
possible to switch to the guest account and then back to a user
account to get the keyboard working. Sometimes after that the mousepad
  stops working.
