Title:
Ejecting external USB hard drive causes kernel panic
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I weekly backup a virtual machine directory to an external USB hard
drive. The directory contains several small files and a single image
file whose size is about 50 gigabytes. After the directory has been
copied, I eject the USB drive. This normally works as expected.
However, on several occasions, the act of ejecting the external USB
hard drive has resulted in a system crash. No information appears in
/var/crash. No desktop password dialog appears. The complete screens
fills with a crash report. I do not see any option to save this crash
report and therefore have attached two photographs. Please note, both
photographs of are of the same crash... One photograph might display a
little more information than the other. Once the screen has filled
with the crash report, I am not able to get any response with
<control>C, <escape>, or <enter>. The only way I have found to
proceed, is to power down the system and reboot.
I would like to be able to submit a crash report so that this problem
can be properly diagnosed. What changes can I make that will provide
more information to help you diagnose this problem?
