[Bug 1295646] Re: Traceback when unplugging USB port replicator

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.14 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Title:
Traceback when unplugging USB port replicator

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I have a lenovo USB 2.0 port replicator with Digtial Video (MODEL
#VDK8736). I discovered that whenever I unplugged my port replicator,
there would be a kernel traceback. My laptop has a VGA port which I
plug an external monitor into, and I use the port replicator for
network, keyboard, mouse, and sound (ie, I don't use the digital video
on the port replicator). This configuration works fine until I unplug
the port replicator and I get a traceback (see attached logs). The
system is mostly usable in this state, though it can cause problems
later with suspend/resume/unlock where the screensaver sometimes can't
receive input. I can still trigger the traceback if I only use the
port replicator without using an external monitor.

  Booting into the linux-image-3.12.0-2-generic (3.12.0-2.7), I don't
get a traceback when unplugging the port replicator.
