Sometimes, once my computer has started up and my desktop environment
has loaded, I will have unsuccessful internet connection. My wireless
connection to my router will still show as receiving a signal. However,
I will enter a URL into my browser (Firefox), and it will be
'Connecting' for minutes, before eventually failing to load the web
page.

I use a USB wireless-G adapter dongle (Linksys WUSB54GC), along with the
USB extension cable it came with (D-Link).

Disconnecting and unplugging the adapter for ten seconds then replugging
it and reconnecting always rectifies the problem. I'm able to
successfully connect to the world wide web once again, and any web page
will load up.

This will additionally happen with Steam and the Ubuntu Software Centre,
so I know it is not just a Firefox problem.

Other times the internet works fine on startup.
