[Bug 1301003] Re: kworker runs with 40-60% CPU because of modules e1000 and/or e1000e
On my Lenovo ThinkPad T61, I tried kernel 3.14.1-031401-generic, but at
boot it fails. It shows me a panel stating I have problem with the
display and input devices. I then press "enter" and another panel with
4 options shows up, including going into low graphic mode. At this
point, the mousepad does not work and the panel does not accept my
keyboard input anymore. I can switch to one of the consoles with CTRL-
ALT-F3 and there, my keyboard does work.
I am running the Nvidia proprietary driver but I really need it. Since
this bug comes occasionally, say once every 2 months, there is no point
for me using the open source drivers as they would render my laptop
useless for my work. If that is the problem causing 3.14.1 to fail.
then running a mainline kernel is not an option for me.

Title:
kworker runs with 40-60% CPU because of modules e1000 and/or e1000e
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Once in a blue moon, lets say once every two months, kworker runs with
40-60% CPU because of kernel modules e1000 and/or e1000e. Reboot the
machine does not help. I rebooted twice to no avail
I then ran:
sudo modprobe -r e1000
sudo modprobe -r e1000e
and the problem was gone.
When I run the following afterwards:
sudo modprobe e1000
sudo modprobe e1000e
... the kworker ran for less than 1s and exited.
This particular problem was already reported in bug #887739.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/887793
but was not the problem of the person that reported it, thus this new
bug report.
