[Bug 1301003] Re: kworker runs with 40-60% CPU because of modules e1000 and/or e1000e
Hans Deragon, as per http://download.lenovo.com/express/ddfm.html an update to your BIOS is available (2.30). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.
For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.
Thank you for your understanding.
** Description changed:
- Once in a blue moon, lets say once every two months, kworker runs with
- 40-60% CPU because of kernel modules e1000 and/or e1000e. Reboot the
- machine does not help. I rebooted twice to no avail
+ Approximately once every two months, kworker runs with 40-60% CPU
+ because of kernel modules e1000 and/or e1000e. Rebooting the machine
+ does not help.
- I then ran:
-
- sudo modprobe -r e1000
- sudo modprobe -r e1000e
-
- and the problem was gone.
-
- When I run the following afterwards:
-
- sudo modprobe e1000
- sudo modprobe e1000e
-
- ... the kworker ran for less than 1s and exited.
-
- This particular problem was already reported in bug #887739.
-
- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/887793
-
- but was not the problem of the person that reported it, thus this new
- bug report.
+ WORKAROUND: Execute at a terminal:
+ sudo modprobe -r e1000
+ sudo modprobe -r e1000e
+ sudo modprobe e1000
+ sudo modprobe e1000e
