[Bug 1316768] Re: Gaming mice often don't work out of the box on Ubuntu.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.15 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Title:
Gaming mice often don't work out of the box on Ubuntu.

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  cat /proc/version_signature
  Ubuntu 3.11.0-20.34-generic 3.11.10.6
  ----------------
My specific case is with a Zalman ZM-M401R.

The current solution is recompilation of the kernel, which works, but
unfortunately turns downloading a kernel update into a huge chore.
  Please fix this upstream.

  Some other experiences:

  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2204588
  http://askubuntu.com/questions/232564/sharkoon-drakonia-gaming-mouse-doesnt-work-at-all

There are literally dozens of reports about various usb gaming
peripherals not working correctly due to this.

Following the solution in the second link works well, but perhaps it
would be better for HID_MAX_USAGES to be revised to either be a sysctl
or updated to reflect newish hardware?

This is my first bug report, be gentle.
