Title:
blank screen on resume from suspend

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The system comes back after suspend, but when I use the open source
driver, I can only access other VTs, but not my X session. When I
switch to the proprietary driver, I also lose access to other VTs
after resume as well. Plugging in another monitor works as long as
the system is configured to use that monitor automatically. The
screen can't be made to wake up and won't wake even after hours of
using the system. I've also tried closing and opening the laptop lid,
and doing other things that would normally wake up the screen (disable
display then restore, etc.). I also tried following some directions I
found online suggesting adding acpi_osi=Linux to the boot cmdline, but
that only served to make the system crash when switching VTs (the X VT
still came up black with no backlight).

This worked under 12.04 just fine.
