[Bug 1320554] Re: [Samsung NP350E5C-A02AU] Suspend hang with blank screen on lid open

So it isn't just me....
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-power-manager/+bug/1303736

I am just unlucky in that not only do have the suspend/blank screen bug,
but my hardware also gives me the disappearing wireless mouse on reboot!

Title:
[Samsung NP350E5C-A02AU] Suspend hang with blank screen on lid open

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I'm using a Samsung NP350E5C laptop and I've been having strange
issues. I gave up on Xubuntu 13.10 and went back to Xubuntu 13.04
until Xubuntu 14.04 LTS came out. I'd hoped that the strange issues
had been resolved but since doing a clean install I have been dogged
  by weird issues.

Here's what is causing me grief at the moment. I leave my laptop on
24/7 and just close the lid when I am away from the machine. I go into
the system's power settings to disable suspend and hibernation so that
closing the lid does does nothing. With the kernel that 14.04 shipped
with it was as though those settings were completely ignored. I'd
close the lid and when I opened it again, there was a blank screen and
I was unable to do anything at all, not even start an alternative log
in. The only option was to hold the power button until the machine
  ungracefully turned off.

I then applied some hacks I found on line to permanently disable
hibernation and suspend. I've also installed all the newer kernels as
they have been offered in synaptic. The problem changed to being
**intermittent** - my system would randomly hang when I opened the
  lid.

With the latest two kernels (including the 27 one that just came out)
it is now happening **more often**! I'll wake up in the morning, open
my laptop and there's the blank screen with no way to wake the system
  up.

I wonder if there is something strange with Samsung laptops and the
kernels at the moment. I have to add the acpi_vendor backlight tweak
to get the brightness working correctly. And for the first kernel
releases under 14.04 my usb wireless mouse would not be recognised
after a reboot -- I'd have to unplug the transmitter then plug it in
  again.

I'm still experiencing random system slow downs where my machine slows
to a crawl. Trying to move the mouse across the screen would take 5
mins in little jumps and starts, with no mouse clicks being
  registered.

  Looking on the forums
  (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2224455) I see I am not
alone and it has been suggested I try a mainline lowlatency kernel
which as of today I will try.

I am happy to try any suggestions to help resolve this because this is
a good machine and it was frustrating having to give up on ubuntu
13.10 and stay with the older, more dependable versions.
