[Bug 1320833] Re: [HP 15-d017cl Notebook PC] Synaptics touchpad not detected in Ubuntu 12.04

David Galbraith, as per http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4158&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=6761854#N1209 an update to your BIOS is available (F.0B). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
  [HP 15-d017cl Notebook PC] Synaptics touchpad not detected in Ubuntu
  12.04

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I got a new laptop that came with Windows 8 but Windows 8 is bad so I uninstalled that and put Ubuntu 12.04 on there instead. When I had Windows 8 the touchpad worked fine but now it doesn't do anything, no scrolling and no clicking. So I attached the output of dmesg and the contents of /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /proc/bus/input/devices like the wiki says I should. I hope we can fix this, thanks!
