[Bug 1322789] Re: [Toshiba Satellite L845-SP4105LA] laptop fans malfunction in Ubuntu 14.04
Hi, Christopher!
Thanks for your guide.
I installed the packages following the link you provided.
When booting into Ubuntu, the screen starts flicking, and cannot use it.
It seems that the temperature is not going up, because I can connect via ssh, and there launch vncserver just to put some load into my machine.
Checking the temperature, after 30 minutes using Thunderbird, Firefox and Chromium, the output of "sensors" is what follows:
coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Physical id 0: +59.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 0: +59.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 1: +59.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 2: +59.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 3: +55.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
radeon-pci-0100
Adapter: PCI adapter
temp1: +52.5°C
Looks good. But no video, and no audio! I tried to reproduce some audio, with no luck, using a VNC client. I used CLI for this, just to avoid confussion and to send the output to the speakers.
The network of course works, wired and wireless.
If there is some trick to bring up audio & video here, I think I'll have the issue solved.
Now this issue appears as "Incomplete", must I change its status to something different?
Thanks a lot, and best regards,
HeCSa.

Title:
[Toshiba Satellite L845-SP4105LA] laptop fans malfunction in Ubuntu
14.04
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Hi,
When booting into Ubuntu 14.04, and using my new Toshiba L845, the fans do not start working, or do not stoip working, depending on the boot.
Pressing "Esc" when booting, I can read in the boot messages something like:
Not starting fancontrol; run pwmconfig first.
This message also appears in the boot.log.
I tried to execute pwmconfig, but this is my output:
root@sdf1:/var/log# pwmconfig
# pwmconfig revision 6166 (2013-05-01)
This program will search your sensors for pulse width modulation (pwm)
controls, and test each one to see if it controls a fan on
your motherboard. Note that many motherboards do not have pwm
circuitry installed, even if your sensor chip supports pwm.
We will attempt to briefly stop each fan using the pwm controls.
The program will attempt to restore each fan to full speed
after testing. However, it is ** very important ** that you
physically verify that the fans have been to full speed
after the program has completed.
/usr/sbin/pwmconfig: There are no pwm-capable sensor modules installed
root@sdf1:/var/log#
But when running "sensors", I have an output like this one:
root@sdf1:/var/log# sensors
coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Physical id 0: +44.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 0: +43.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 1: +44.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 2: +43.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 3: +37.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
radeon-pci-0100
Adapter: PCI adapter
temp1: +38.5°C
root@sdf1:/var/log#
As you can see, I boot'ed my machine just a few minutes ago, and this
is why it's so cool...in some minutes the battery will suffer because
of the fans, or because of the heat.
lsmod qives me this output:
root@sdf1:/var/log# lsmod
