[Bug 1322789] Re: [Toshiba Satellite L845-SP4105LA] laptop fans malfunction in Ubuntu 14.04
HeCSa, could you please clarify your statement:
>"Booted with Utopic, tried to install lm-sensors, but the package seems to be obsoleted in the next versions."
As per, https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lm-sensors it is available
in Utopic.

Title:
[Toshiba Satellite L845-SP4105LA] laptop fans malfunction in Ubuntu
14.04
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Hi,
When booting into Ubuntu 14.04, and using my new Toshiba L845, the fans do not start working, or do not stoip working, depending on the boot.
Pressing "Esc" when booting, I can read in the boot messages something like:
Not starting fancontrol; run pwmconfig first.
This message also appears in the boot.log.
I tried to execute pwmconfig, but this is my output:
root@sdf1:/var/log# pwmconfig
# pwmconfig revision 6166 (2013-05-01)
This program will search your sensors for pulse width modulation (pwm)
controls, and test each one to see if it controls a fan on
your motherboard. Note that many motherboards do not have pwm
circuitry installed, even if your sensor chip supports pwm.
We will attempt to briefly stop each fan using the pwm controls.
The program will attempt to restore each fan to full speed
after testing. However, it is ** very important ** that you
physically verify that the fans have been to full speed
after the program has completed.
/usr/sbin/pwmconfig: There are no pwm-capable sensor modules installed
root@sdf1:/var/log#
But when running "sensors", I have an output like this one:
root@sdf1:/var/log# sensors
coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Physical id 0: +44.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 0: +43.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 1: +44.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 2: +43.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 3: +37.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
radeon-pci-0100
Adapter: PCI adapter
temp1: +38.5°C
root@sdf1:/var/log#
As you can see, I boot'ed my machine just a few minutes ago, and this
is why it's so cool...in some minutes the battery will suffer because
of the fans, or because of the heat.
lsmod qives me this output:
root@sdf1:/var/log# lsmod

Please, if you have any clue about whan can I do to use my machine
with Ubuntu, I'll appreciate it. Yesterday I was out of my hoouse, and
when back, I noticed my laptop was 90° C...a lot!
Thanks for your time and effort in helping me solve this.
Best regards,
HeCSa.
