[Bug 1307794] [NEW] [HP Compaq nx6320 Notebook PC] CPU frequency scaling not available

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On login, I am presented with a dialogue stating that frequency scaling is not available for my hardware. Also, the frequency scaling applet informs me of the same. This contradicts the physical characteristics of the CPU, which does support frequency scaling. This page informs me that Intel SpeedStep technology is available for the CPU I am using:
http://ark.intel.com/products/27253

At boot, i get the following messages:
 * Loading cpufreq kernel modules... [fail]
 * Starting CPU Frequency daemon cpufreqd [fail]

$ lshw provides the following output for the CPU:
     *-cpu
