[Bug 1280668] Re: [Medion MS-7857] Computer freezes or hangs during install, boot or usage

Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS (Lucid Lynx) unable to boot the PC due to a Kernel panic.
[0.812538] Kernel panic – not syncing : AMD-Vi : ILLEGAL_COMMAND_ERROR while resetting command buffer

Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) unable to boot the PC due to a Kernel
panic. But I wasn’t able to capture the complete error.

Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) unable to boot the PC due to a Kernel
panic. But I wasn’t able to capture the complete error.

Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) the computer boot up and hang up for more than 20 minutes. I wasn’t able to work with the computer or get any logs. However, the last message in console was:
[147.992078] AMD-Vi : Completion-Wait loop timed out

After these tests the problem appeared for first time in the release Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot). And with previous Ubuntu versions this PC is unable to boot.

  [ 28.219649] AMD-Vi: Completion-Wait loop timed out

WORKAROUND: I was able to complete the install passing the following kernel parameter, then the computer boots fine but hangs for between 25 to 2 minutes and then continues working. I would expect the computer not to hang:
  noapic
