[Bug 1255104] Re: HP ZBook 15 Try Ubuntu via Live environment freezes system after a while

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is such a request.

With the recent release of this Ubuntu release, would like to confirm
if this bug is still present. Please test again with the newer kernel
and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not.

You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the
following commands in a terminal window:

    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to
Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from
Incomplete to Fix Released.

If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add
a tag named: bot-stop-nagging.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

Title:
HP ZBook 15 Try Ubuntu via Live environment freezes system after a
  while

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  machine: HP ZBook 15
  (Intel Core i7 4700MQ Haswell, NVIDIA Quadro K1100M 2GB, 1920 x 1080 display)

system: ubuntu 13.10 desktop, 64-bit, live DVD (md5 sum OK)

I boot from the live DVD. The boot goes fine.
Then I decide to try the ubuntu (not to install).
I go to the search in the left upper corner, type "terminal".
  I open the terminal.

After a while the desktop environment almost completely freezes. I can only move the touchpad pointer.
I can also switch to the console (Alt Ctrl F1) and then back (Alt F7). The desktop responds after this switch but its reactions and colours are strange and it is unusable.

I guess a problem with a video driver. I am not sure which one because
there are two graphics processors inside (one is an embedded Intel HD
Graphics 4600, the other is the NVidia, see above).

However, I have similar problems when I insert the DVD into an old computer: 1st generation Intel i7, without an embedded graphics, with two dual cards GeForce GTX295 (4 GPUs together). The machine runs fine older Ubuntu and Mint releases.
