Teo, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers an update to your BIOS is available (2.21). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate does it change anything?  If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report. As well, you don't have to create a new
bug report.

Title:
  Volume up/down keys have stopped working

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  All of a sudden, the volume keys from the keyboard have stopped
  working.

  The volume control on the top right corner of the screen does work if
  used with the mouse.

  I have both an external usb keyboard with dedicated volume + and -
  keys, and the builtin laptop keyboard where the volume +/-keys are the
  combination of the Fn key plus the up/down arrows.

  All these used to work up to a few minutes ago. Now none of them works.
  I think they stopped working with the last reboot.
