[Bug 1361644] Re: 14.04. Resume from suspend with HDMI display, login/lock screen freezes.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.17 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Title:
14.04. Resume from suspend with HDMI display, login/lock screen
  freezes.

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Hello friends. I have a Dell Latitude E7440 that came with Ubuntu on
it. I am running 14.04.1 with all available updates as of today. I
noticed if my laptop is in suspend mode and I plug in an HDMI monitor,
then open the lid to resume, it freezes. The lock screen allows me to
move my cursor around, but I cannot click anything, and the keyboard
  itself does not respond whatsoever.

If I do these steps in any sort of different order, as in resume
laptop first then plug in, etc., it's fine. It's just when the system
is resuming with a new HDMI source plugged in that wasn't there when
  it went to sleep.

Thank you for your time, dedication, and hard work!
