[Bug 1371786] Re: Touchpad doesn't work unless middle-click is constantly pressed (on an Elantech touchpad, in a Fujitsu H730)
Thor K. H., thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/Download/ShowFiles.asp an update to your BIOS is available (1.09). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.
For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.
Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed.
Thank you for your understanding.

- Further description:
- However, I stumbled across bug #1300427, where there was mention of both a workaround and a fix in a newer kernel.
- I have been able to use the workaround -- which is basically limiting the protocol of the psmouse module, such that I remove and load psmouse with proto=exps.
+ Further description: Due to the comments in bug #1300427 I've tested the
+ mainline kernel version 3.17-rc5-utopic, and the only impact I recall
+ was how the right-click button now also worked while pressing middle-
+ click on the touchpad.
- After this, a bit further in time, I accidentally managed to click with the touchpad. It appears that the touchpad strangely enough works quite well as long as I hold down the middle click button. While holding it down, the touchpad seems to work rather well - including multitouch features.
- The joy is short, as it registeres no input while depressed.
