Re: [Bug 1050352] Re: [Gigabyte P55A-UD4] External USB 3.0 hard drive randomly disconnects and connects
Some kernels are a lot more reliable and some USB3 devices are just
unreliable.
You need to confirm that that device works fine under windows.
I have recently had the strange situation of a HDD caddy which keeps
disconnecting under windows but no issues under linux. (different computers)
So OS is not the only factor. Sometimes it's the device or the USB chipset.

Title:
[Gigabyte P55A-UD4] External USB 3.0 hard drive randomly disconnects
and connects
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
Ubuntu 12.10 AMD64, kernel 3.5.0-14.16.
External hard drive Hitachi Touro Desk 3.0 connected to USB 3.0 port.
Gets disconnected randomly and then connected again. Only happens with
USB 3.0 connection (xhci).
WORKAROUND: When plugged to USB 2.0 (ehci) port it works ok.
Attached is related kernel log portion: there is nothing special there
except for these lines:
11-2: Parent hub missing LPM exit latency info. Power management will be impacted.
usb 11-2: USB disconnect, device number 2
