[Bug 1385926] Re: Black screen on resume after suspend by lid close persists in Xubuntu 14.10

Damian Campbell, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested exactly shown as:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.18-rc1

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

+ [Dell Latitude D400] Black screen on resume after suspend by lid close persists in Xubuntu 14.10

** Description changed:

- Same issue as reported in Bug #1357090 (Xubuntu LTS 14.04.1) and Bug
- #1303736 (Xubuntu LTS 14.04) is confirmed on Xubuntu 14.10 upgraded from
- 14.04.1 on Dell Latitude 400.
-
Closing the lid does not activate a clean suspend and results in black
- screen with frozen cursor upon re-opening the lid.
-
- The machine does NOT suspend.
-
- Once black screen mode is invoked, the only recourse is power off re-
- boot.
+ screen with frozen cursor upon re-opening the lid in Xubuntu 14.10 and
+ upgraded from 14.04.1. Once black screen mode is invoked, the only
+ recourse is power off re-boot. Suspend by lid close worked correctly in
+ Xubuntu 12.04.

  Fix reported http://xubuntu.org/news/laptop-users-fix-available-for-the-
- black-screen-on-unlock-bug/ does not seem to apply.
+ black-screen-on-unlock-bug/ does not apply.

- As before, suspending before closing lid by using menus or keyboard
- works correctly and results in a clean resume on lid open.
+ WORKAROUND: Suspend via menus or keyboard before closing lid.

- As a reminder, suspend by lid close always worked correctly in Xubuntu 12.04 LTS so this is NOT a "BIOS problem" as has been suggested elsewhere.
