[Bug 1386551] Re: Weird HW exceptions after upgrading to 14.10

Ok, installed kernel 3.18-rc1 but I still saw these exceptions during
the boot procedure. So looks like the new kernel does not solve it.

(but after that, the desktop went black and nothing happens, so I went
back to 3.16 and now the desktop looks broken, grrrr)

And now I have to figure out how to bring back the desktop ... :(

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
       Status: Incomplete => Confirmed

Title:
  Weird HW exceptions after upgrading to 14.10

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  After upgrading to Ubuntu 14.10 I can see these worrying lines,
  printed in red, from my `dmesg` output:

  [ 3.192349] ata14.00: exception Emask 0x1 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 <-- printed in red
  [ 3.192395] ata14.00: irq_stat 0x40000001 <-- printed in red

  [ 3.520696] ata14.00: configured for UDMA/66
  [ 3.520821] ata14: EH complete

  Any ideas where the exception and HSM violation is coming from?

  The next section with a similar issue is:

  [   14.172661] ata8.00: exception Emask 0x1 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x0 <-- printed in red
  [   14.172712] ata8.00: irq_stat 0x40000001 <-- printed in red

  [   14.172879] ata8.00: status: { DRDY ERR }
  [   14.172922] ata8.00: error: { ABRT }

  Been searching everywhere for solutions but found no working one. Any
  clues? Any answers very welcome.

  Thanks!!
