Title:
graphics card confuses ubuntu must install in safe grapics mode
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
i am running a MSI K9VGM-v mainboard with a 2gigs of ddr2 a 500gb sata
hard drive and a BFG nvidia Geforce 7800 GT OC card lspci reports it
as (02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G70 [GeForce
7800 GT] (rev a1)
the mainboards bios version is 1.4
apon starting the computer from live cd, all seems well the computer
seems to be doing fine, untill the gui boots, then it freezes up solid
as a rock.
dmesg gives this error ( [ 132.493034] +------ PCI-Express Device Error ------+

basically what happens from what i can tell (im no software or code
guru) is ubuntu trys to boot the onboard card, which has no hardware
jumper only a bios software switch, to turn it to the pci X card, and
ubuntu gets confused about this, so it locks up. it seems to be
working better than the previous version of ubuntu which to install it
correctly, i had to remove the onboard card, find a vga cable plug it
into my monitor and boot the computer, install ubuntu, then shut the
computer back down, install the card, hook up the DVI cable and then
start the computer again.
this is rather inconvienent, i have been told it's everything from a
bad bios update, to falty hardware, if there is any suggestions i
would greatly appricate them, i would rather not have to buy a new
mainboard.
also when running envyng-gtk the ubuntu restricted drivers app shows
up in the tray icon telling me there are restricted drivers availible,
it gives me about 3 or 4 drivers to choose from even though i have run
Envyng-gtk to get the proper graphics drivers for my computer.
if any other information is needed please contact me at

thank you for your time and all your wonderfull and excruceatingly
hard work.
Elphias.
