[Bug 846796] Re: Slow boot since update suspect it relates to networking

Toby Maxwell-Lyte, thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Oneiric reached EOL on May 9, 2013.
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Is this an issue in a supported release? If so, could you please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 846796

** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => Low

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)

Title:
Slow boot since update suspect it relates to networking

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Running oneiric 11.10 and recently performed a sudo aptitude update.

The boot time is now approximately 3 minutes and it used to be
approximately 1 minute. Looking at bootchart output there seems to be
a long sleep command during the networking process shortly after the
  dhclient3 is initiated.

Having tested this further, boot times with ethernet cable are greatly
reduced so it would seem that wireless is causing the issue. When it
does finally boot the wireless works fine. I have tried replacing wicd
with network-manager and it makes no difference.

  Boot time with ethernet: 1:27
Boot time with no ethernet: 2:48

I did not have this issue in 11.04. It has only appeared since
  upgrading to 11.10.
