Title:
Crash on vgaswitcheroo is off
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Even since ubuntu 10.04 there is a issue with vgaswitcheroo that
bothers me.
I have an Nvidia-Optimus ready laptop (Dell N5110). I am using
vgaswitchheroo to disable my dedicated graphics because my laptop
becomes very hot if i don't do it. I don't install any Nvidia-
restricted or official drivers because they make my system extremly
unstable.
As you can see, vgaswitchheroo is working fine.

root@em-hax:/# alias | grep nv
alias nv_of='echo OFF > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch'
alias nv_on='echo ON > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch'
root@em-hax:/# sensors | tail -5
Adapter: PCI adapter
temp1: +61.0°C (high = +95.0°C, hyst = +3.0°C)
(crit = +105.0°C, hyst = +5.0°C)
(emerg = +135.0°C, hyst = +5.0°C)
root@em-hax:/# nv_of
root@em-hax:/# sensors | tail -5
Adapter: PCI adapter
temp1: N/A (high = +95.0°C, hyst = +3.0°C)
(crit = +105.0°C, hyst = +5.0°C)
(emerg = +135.0°C, hyst = +5.0°C)
</pre>
My issue is the fact that I must enable vgaswitchheroo before i shut
down my computer. If i don't do it the computer will show a black
screen and just hang.
Moreover, with vgaswitchheroo disabled, i will get an instant freeze
when i want to access tty1 for example (CTRL+ALT+F1).
Steps to reproduce this issue:
* Disable vgaswitcheroo on an optimus-capable computer with no nvidia drivers installed
* Try to shut down the computer OR press CTRL+ALT+F1
Expected results:
* Normal shutdown OR go to tty1
What happens instead:
* Computer freezes
