[Bug 1223599] Re: Webcam and ethernet not working after upgrade to kernel 3.8.0-30

JJ Forneron, thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Raring reached EOL on January 27, 2014.
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Is this an issue in a supported release? If so, could you please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 1223599

Title:
  Webcam and ethernet not working after upgrade to kernel 3.8.0-30

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I upgraded the Kernel to 3.8.0-30 in Ubuntu 13.04 and now the webcam
  does not work anymore:

  When I start cheese I get:

  ** (cheese:5411): WARNING **: cheese-main.vala:256: Error: No device found
  (cheese:5411): cheese-CRITICAL **: cheese_camera_device_get_device_node: assertion `CHEESE_IS_CAMERA_DEVICE (device)' failed

  (cheese:5411): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_settings_schema_key_type_check: assertion `value != NULL' failed
  (cheese:5411): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_variant_get_type_string: assertion `value != NULL' failed
  (cheese:5411): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_settings_set_value: key 'camera' in 'org.gnome.Cheese' expects type 's', but a GVariant of type '(null)' was given
  ** (cheese:5411): CRITICAL **: cheese_preferences_dialog_setup_resolutions_for_de vice: assertion `device != NULL' failed

  I also tried accessing it with VLC:

  v4l2 demux error: cannot open device '/dev/video0': No such file or
  directory

  and the ethernet problem is the same as with previous 3.8 kernels:
  wifi works fine but ethernet shuts itself down after a while.

   It works with 3.8.0-29, here is what I get in that kernel:

  I tried to re-install the kernel as well - no luck. It could be a
  regression. From the previous release.

  in 3.8.0-29 I also get
  ls /dev/video*
  /dev/video0
  whereas 3.8.0-30 gives me ls: cannot access /dev/video*: No such file or directory
  same for  /dev/video0.

  I am running 13.04 on a Toshiba Satellite-C650 laptop.

  Thanks for the help!
