[Bug 1391657] Re: Unreliable connection with bcm43142 and bcmwl-driver on HP Stream Notebook 14-z010nz
modprobe lib80211 solved the problem. On trusty and utopic. Will do some
more testing and then mark the bug report as "Opinion", because I think,
lib80211 should be loaded automatically with wl or even better before.
I'm sure that's possible somehow and bcmwl could just be installed,
without editing /etc/modules. That would be more user friendly.
Cheers

Title:
Unreliable connection with bcm43142 and bcmwl-driver on HP Stream
Notebook 14-z010nz
Status in “bcmwl” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
Hello, I've got a Broadcom bcm43142 Wifi-Adapter in this machine. The
only driver that kind of works was
bcmwl-kernel-source 6.30.223.248+bdcom-0ubuntu1 which is not
in the official repositories.
Ubuntu release:
Description: Ubuntu 14.10
Release: 14.10
Kernel 3.16.0-24-generic
Problem:
I am getting random disconnects on relatively short intervals. The adapter seems to have problems with roaming and multiple APs.
Sometimes the wifi connectivity stops being available alltogether. This is usually after a period of time. In this situation the wifi option doesn't show in networkmanager applet or as connection in network configuration.
Sometimes the wifi is seemingly connected (wifi symbol in the status bar). But no website can be downloaded.
Attempts to solve the problem:
-I tried compiling the STA-source from Broadcom. It didn't compile
-I also tried the ndiswrapper solution. The device was recognised but network-manager crashed on every attempt to configure the wifi.
-The network would run fine with an alternative usb-wifi-adapter with a Realtek chip in it. So it is most likely a problem related to this Broadcom device and the STA driver
-The older version of this package does not support this model bcm43142.
Since wifi is the only network connectivity available on this netbook/ultrabook, a solid driver installation would be much appreciated. Maybe something could be done about it despite the Broadcom STA driver's bad reputation.
Thank you for your help
