Title:
[Dell Inspiron 3442] HDMI audio hotplug detection is not working on
  14.04.1

Status in HWE Next Project:
  New
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  CID: 201402-14675 Dell Inspiron 3442

The HDMI audio detection does not work on this system with 14.04 +
  update (3.13.0-39)

  Steps:
  1. Install 14.04 + update (3.13.0-39), boot to desktop
  2. Connect an external monitor to the HDMI port

  Expected result:
  * External display available, HDMI audio output option available

  Actual result:
  * Only the external display will be available, no HDMI audio output.

  Debugging info:
  It works with cold-plug.
Also, if you play a wav file by using "aplay -D hdmi:HDMI,0 test.wav" command, it will make the output option available in "Sound Settings"

  ubuntu@201402-14675:~$ aplay -l

  Adding "options snd-hda-intel jackpoll_ms=500" into /etc/modprobe.d
/alsa-base.conf as stated in [1] could make the detection work with
  hotplug.
