[Bug 1400050] Re: Brightness doesn't change anymore in X.Org / GNOME Shell in 14.10
For sure this isn't a BIOS issue
UX31A.218
01/31/2013
The Fn+f5 and Fn+f6 for decrease and increase brightness work but only
from 10 to 9 decreasing and get stuck at 9. Then increasing works from 9
to 10 and gets stuck at 10. Also Fn+f7 works to toggle the backlight on
and off.
With xev I get for brightness increase and decrease

Is that giving some information where to search for thsi bug? With
previous GNOME Shell(same BIOS) this was working fine but keyboard
illuminations was buggy, but that is now OK.

Title:
Brightness doesn't change anymore in X.Org / GNOME Shell in 14.10
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I have no idea to what package this belongs. Please file it under the
correct one.
Brightness doesn't change anymore in X.Org / GNOME Shell in 14.10. It
stays on maximum (10) and sometimes the less brightness down/less key
makes it go to 9 or 6. Each time I press the brightness down/less key,
the overlay with brightness setting shows up (so the key works.
I can set brightness to any level with
echo 1 >/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
echo 2 >/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
...
echo 10 >/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
and the display responds properly and I can read out the value with
cat /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
but changing it with keys only goes from 10 to 9 or 10 to 6.
This used to work in older versions of Ubuntu. Please fix this and let me know how I can fix this temporarily.
