[Bug 1402335] Re: scanimage -L finds fitjitsu 04c5:11fc but if repeated does not find it
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-V3.18-vivid
download of the V3.18-vivid with common and specific header and the generic adm64.deb
dpkg -i *.deb worked with no errors
the kernel booted with out issue and is running fine
Linux skc 3.18.0-031800-generic #201412071935 SMP Mon Dec 8 00:36:34 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

the lsusb shows the scanner present. i've plugged it into what is
supposidly the usb2.0 plug and while it shows it is on bus(hub)1 the new
kernel boot as re-mapped the numbers as below:
[ 0.756337] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI Host Controller
[ 0.756342] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 1
[ 0.756425] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: cache line size of 64 is not supported
[ 0.756439] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: irq 25 for MSI/MSI-X
[ 0.756489] usb usb1: New USB device found, idVendor=1d6b, idProduct=0002
[ 0.756490] usb usb1: New USB device strings: Mfr=3, Product=2, SerialNumber=1

[ 0.756570] hub 1-0:1.0: USB hub found
[ 0.756585] hub 1-0:1.0: 14 ports detected
ie it is still using the xHCI host controller
i no longer get core dump warning. scanimage -L simply does not find
the device. simple-scan says no scanner available. sane-find-scanner
does not detect the scanner. So technically it has gone form seeable but
not working to invisible.
A possible test would be to make the xHCI a module or a kernel flag such
it could be blacklisted and see if the EHIC actually works on 14.04.

Title:
scanimage -L finds fitjitsu 04c5:11fc but if repeated does not find it
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Using my System76 gazel, with a fully updated Ubuntu GNOME 14.04, my
Fujitsu 6110 Scanner doesn't work via either USB 2.0 or 3.0.

if i re-plug it and type:
scanimage -L
device `fujitsu:fi-6110dj:28760' is a FUJITSU fi-6110dj scanner
scanimage -L
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).
Re-plug it back and type:
scanimage
scanimage: open of device fujitsu:fi-6110dj:28760 failed: Error during device I/O
while I'm getting the error on scanning, I'm not sure this is a usb2 usb3 xhci_hcd issue as per dmesg:

even though a 'no find scanner' after the error the lsusb above
remains the same.
WORKAROUND: The scanner works perfectly on a USB 2.0 port in Ubuntu
12.04 system with no driver added.
