As HP only releases their BIOS firmware update for my model in 64bits
Windows-only exe, and after many attempts to do it without installing
windows (WinPE live, for example) has failed I ended formatting
everything, installing windows 8, updating the BIOS and then restoring
Ubuntu.

My system is working now, fortunatelly without screen freezing.

  The same description from  #1385926 applies here. However, my system
  is Ubuntu with Unity, with a default install.

  Also, the suggested workaround (choose "suspend" from menu) works too.
