[Bug 1401963] Re: Fix S3 on some Valleyview/Baytrail systems, switch to i915_bdw

This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves
the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the
results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-
trusty' to 'verification-done-trusty'.

If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will
be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how
to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

Title:
Fix S3 on some Valleyview/Baytrail systems, switch to i915_bdw

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in linux source package in Trusty:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
We've identified a commit in 3.16 to fix S3 on certain Baytrail
systems, but it alone is not enough to fix the bug when backported to
3.13. Further investigation shows that it would likely need
backporting chunks of i915 from 3.14 which is not feasible. The better
option is to switch BYT to use i915_bdw, which has been tested to be
  stable.
