Can somebody spend some time and do some research on this L1) problem 
for me please?

It may require posting a message on the wxWidgets forum to get some help.

See LAYER_WIDGET::passOnFocus() as a failed attempt at solving the problem.

I cannot get back to this until this weekend.

Also, see TODO.txt for other items needing work on it.

Items L2) and L3) are probably easy enough for somebody else to code, 
have at it. I am pretty burnt out right now.
