I am preparing a bug fix release of Kicad, coming soon.
I'll built also versions for ubuntu 8.10 and CentOS 4.8 from this version.
I am able to build versions statically linked with libstdc++ , but still 
have some other issues (recent versions of GTK does not work with older 
version)
so the best way is to build Kicad with old Linux versions.
