If anything should succeed on Windows, I want it to be MINGW.

This is why I think the bug report needs to be sent upstream.

POSIX compatibility is important for MINGW to succeed.

Yes, there are other ways to reduce OUR pain, we can certainly dodge other folk's
problems, and sometimes we do.

But there are consequences from always running away from other people's mistakes.  If that
is always what you do, then pretty soon other people's mistakes are your boss.
