Hi,

Wondering how to get involved with KiCad development. I have experience
with C++ and Python development. Also would be happy to help with packaging.

Not sure how new devs get involved with the project, or if there is some
type of mentorship. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric,

I am very glad to see that more and more people ask how to contribute to KiCad. You can find a few useful hints in one of the KiCad questions [1]. We have a road map that we would like to follow [2,3]. New ideas are very welcome, but it is a good idea to announce them on the mailing list, so they can be discussed first and then approved by the main developers. This way helps us to coordinate our efforts and prevents waste of code if it does not follow the project goals. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask them. Here you can meet experienced users and developers that are always willing to help.

Orson
